FIRST NOVEL COMPETITION 2007 - CLOSED

May 9th saw publication of THE EXTRA LARGE MEDIUM by HELEN SLAVIN, the first novel to be published by Long Barn – and a first novel. The hunt is now on for the first novel to be published in 2007.

The rules of entry are very few and simple.

1. You may not have had a novel published before, but may have published non-fiction or a children's book or poetry.
2. No Fantasy, Science Fiction, teenage or cross-over novels.
3. You must be a UK citizen and resident in the UK.
4. The FIRST FOUR CHAPTERS ONLY of your novel must initially be submitted in ELECTRONIC FORM ONLY… as a Word attachment to an e-mail message addressed to editorial@longbarnbooks.com. For ease of administration, please ensure that your entry is saved in a format that includes both the TITLE of the book and your FULL NAME.
5. You do not need to send a synopsis.
6. If we wish to read the rest of your novel it will be called in and then you will need to submit a printed –out (hard) copy.
7. We cannot give reasons for any refusal or enter into correspondence or make suggestions as to where else you might send it.
8. If you have more than one novel to submit, please do so but the above rules still apply.
9. The novel may have been submitted to other publishers previously but is NOT eligible for consideration by Long Barn Books if it is CURRENTLY under consideration by any other publishing house. (The first four chapters of every submission will be read very quickly. If we do not wish to read any more of your book we will also say so very quickly. You will then be free to submit elsewhere. Once the rest of a novel is called in for reading, you may also receive a 'Sorry but No' very quickly. It is only at the later stages, when your novel may be receiving serious consideration and is being read by a number of people, that there may be a longer delay).

There are no other restrictions but the CLOSING DATE for entries this year is AUGUST 1ST 2006.
