Lanterns Across the Snow
Snow always fell on Christmas Eve, fat and soft as goose feathers, to like a quilt on the ground for weeks of the winter. That is what Fanny remembers, now that she is old and it is another Christmas time, remembers that and so many other things about here childhood in a country Rectory, many years ago. LANTERNS ACROSS THE SNOW is about the three days of that special happy childhood Christmas, from the day of bringing in the yule log and the mistletoe bough and wrapping the presents to put under the tree, to the magic of Christmas Day and the Rectory family and friends gathered round the table, and on to Boxing Day when little Fanny goes with her father through the deep snow to see a family in need and in the evening there is skating by the light of flares on the pond. The book is illustrated with John Lawrence`s wonderfully evocative wood engravings. It is bound in regal purple cloth with a gold emboss and presented in a berry scarlet slip case. A special gift or a keepsake. Many people ask if this book is still available, so here it is. |
